Auction planned
The Camp Michigamme Trustees are planning the first annual Camp Michigamme Auction to raise revenue to support our camping mission to make disciples for Christ. The event will be held in conjunction with Michigamme Day next June. Co-chairs of the auction committee are Tom Anderson and Jill Lindenberg. We are looking for additional volunteers to help organize, support and promote this effort. If you are interested, please contact Tom Anderson at anderson810@gmail.com or 906-482-2780.
Thieves break into Camp Michigamme
Thieves have broken into camp twice in the past few weeks, Executive Director Jim Daly reports. Thieves broke into the canteen, health cabin and maintenance shed the weekend of September 13-14. They entered by kicking in doors or removing window screens and caused some damage to the interior of the Health cabin. They made off with portable drills and items from the canteen but no cash.
The second break-in was September 19 or 20 and Grace Hall was the target. The thieves forced their way into the office through a window and stole phones, two-way radios, a portable computer and about $250. The window operator may be damaged and the screen is destroyed. They pried open the locking cabinet where the small petty cash envelope and the canteen money box is kept. Jim’s desk was damaged as was the locking cabinet. In addition they went into the walk in cooler and smashed some vegetables and it appears that they poked around the freezer as well.
The state police are investigating. The camp has insurance but the deductible is $1,000. Clean-up after the police evidence technician and repairing the damages is a job of many days.
Sign painter needed for Camp Michigamme
Camp Michigamme is in need of a sign painter and/or a calligrapher for some sign refurbishing projects. Some of the signs have calligraphy and others contain standard sign fonts and colors.
The signs can be brought to your location if necessary. Of course, volunteer help is desired but a small stipend may be possible. Email pictures of the signs can sent to help you assess the scope of the project. Contact Executive Director Jim Daly, 906-458-3310 if you have an interest in helping.
